DP Descriptions
Analytical Writing
The course will focus on finding, analyzing, and responding to both primary and secondary sources and their validity. These techniques are key to DP success and will provide students with a skill set they can apply in courses like history, extended essay, theory of knowledge, and language and literature.
Art
The course will focus on how to build a portfolio using techniques and mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, sculpture and mixed media. Students will aim to complete 3 projects during this time.
Spanish
The course will focus on the skills associated with reading for context in text types such as advertisements, blogs, articles, brochures, journals and others. Additionally, we will focus on developing listening, speaking, and writing in preparation for both Spanish Ab Initio and Spanish B SL.
Math
Students will need to have experience with pre-calculus, statistics, probability, functions, and other concepts. Particularly, students who wish to take HL math next year are encouraged to take this summer course.
Engineering & 3D Design
Students focus on user-centered design, innovation, sustainability, and 3D prototyping. They will develop skills in design thinking while navigating through the Engineering Design cycle by creating a high-performance model race car of the Pitsco Fusion Dragster. Within the turnkey cycle, the students would navigate through low-fidelity sketching ideations, high-fidelity 3D Designs in TinkerCAD, practicing safe operations during the fabrication phase with a Dremel and Sander, testing the cars with a Vibe-Coding Applet simulation, Quality Assurance in a mock-up wind tunnel, and concluding the project with a competitive race while measuring acceleration and frictional drag.
Architectural Design
Students would focus on user-centered design, innovation, environmental impact, and immersive 3D modeling. They will develop skills in design thinking while navigating through the Architectural Visualization cycle by developing a high-fidelity business concept with Epic Games "Twinmotion" program. Within the turnkey cycle, students will receive in introductory concept of the LEEDs certification by assessing the environmental impact of human-centered design. Through the TinkerCAD project, they will customize business items with an inclusive Universal Design approach within a pipeline production process. Finally, all the assets will be collected into a highly immersive final business model that will incorporate financial understanding, OSHA safety regulations, interior design, and immersive final presentations in the Twinmotion final video.
